Liam wasn’t supposed to be my happily ever after.

“Let go,” he says against my mouth. “Let me take it for you.”

Before I can say anything, his mouth is on mine again. Our tongues thrash against each other as the kiss becomes hungry. He pulls me close so there’s no space between us. The low sound resonates through his chest, sending shivers down my spine. It’s sexy, and before I know it, my hands are traveling to his chest. I pull his shirt out and my fingers trail up his chest. I want to feel his skin.

Liam breaks the kiss. “Natalie,” my name is both a plea and a request.

“Shhh,” I instruct him as I unbutton his shirt. “I want to feel your heart.”

My hands glide up and he trembles beneath my touch. We stand here with my fingers resting on his chest, feeling his heart beat beneath me. He’s alive and here with me. His hands stay at his sides as he once again lets me decide where I’m going with this.

“I want to touch you so bad,” he admits and his hand lifts then drops. “I’m fighting every muscle in my body right now.”

“Stop fighting,” I say without thinking.

Love. Grief. Loss. Acceptance. Guilt.

Natalie is a Navy Seal Wife who finally got pregnant after fertility problems. She  is preparing for the happiest time of her life and seemed to have it all.. until a knock on the door that changed her life forever.

Weeks away from delivering her first baby, Natalie's world starts crumbling around her after losing the love of her life. Aaron was supposed to be her forever but a tragic event happens while he's serving overseas in the military. 

"My life is gone. My heart is dead."

She's left alone to raise her daughter Aarabelle with a broken heart while grieving the loss of the only man she has ever loved. But Natalie had to pull herself together and learn how to deal with being a widow quickly since she had a baby to take care of. Soon her life moves forward yet she’s not really living.

"She should have both of her parents to guide her, but instead she only has me.. a broken woman."

Then Liam Dempsey, her husband's best friend, enters. He comes to support his friend's wife and starts forcing her out of her comfort zone and doing the things she has neglected during her grief.

"I'll let you use me if you need that."

He is patient but determined to help and be there for Natalie and her baby girl. And little by little he gains her trust and brings back her old self. Later, feelings and attraction that were always off limits start taunting them and their friendship.

"Every day, Liam is here. He helps me, makes me laugh and smile. Cares for us."

When is the right time to move on? Will Aaron always be between them? Can they really save each other? Will the unthinkable happen? Are they really meant to be?

"I shouldn't want this. But I do. I shouldn't be comfortable in his arms. But I am."

Consolation is another must-read from one of my absolute favorite authors. It is a beautiful, raw and touching story that leaves you breathless and wanting more. I seriously can't recommend it highly enough! Corinne Michaels is one of those authors that I love because she brings the emotion and passion we all love to read about and still leaves us hungry for more of her books. Her writing style is like no other and made me stay up all night turning pages. At the end of the book she had me like what in the world?! Why are you do this to us? I need the second book now! Can it just be May already?!

Consolation absolutely falls into one of my most favorites now. If you haven't discovered this fantastic author yet, I couldn't recommend a better book.
